Good Friday

As part of our worship gathering, Shannon is going to dance to Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” (the original verses):

Now I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you?
It goes like this – the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Halelu-jah.

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Halelu-jah.

You say I took the name in vain
I don’t even know the name
But if I did, well, really, what’s it to you?
There’s a blaze of light in every word
It doesn’t matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Halelu-jah.

I did my best, it wasn’t much
I couldn’t feel, so I learned to touch
I’ve told the truth, I didn’t come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I’ll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my lips but Hallelujah

Hallelujah…

A Call to Worship for Passion Sunday

(Note to ‘One’ – Run a metronome
throughout the call. Let it run for 10 or 15 beats before you
begin… and try to let your words work with
the beat.)

One: Listen. (five beats)
What do you hear?
All: Time moving on.
One: Shout “Hosannah!”
All: Hosannah!
One: Shout “Blessed is the One!”
All: Blessed is the One!
One: Listen. (five beats)
What do you hear?
All: Time moving on.
One: Cry, “Crucify him.”
All: Crucify him.
One: Shout, “CRUCIFY HIM.”
All: CRUCIFY HIM.
One: Listen. (five beats)
What do you hear?
All: Time moving on.
One: Yes. But not only that…
in the moving of time –
in the beats and the silences…
in the ‘hosannah’s and the ‘crucify him’s,
do you hear God? (five beats)
God is with us.
All: We are not alone.
One: We are not alone.
Let us worship God.

I’m Not Getting Anything Done

Which is so unlike me.

Yeah. Right.

When ‘Procrastination’ is one’s first, middle, and last name (Hi! I’m Pro P. Procrastinator.) not getting things started is a life reality.

I know, I know. Take it in little chunks. What can be done right now? Do it for 10 minutes. etc. etc. etc.

My mind just isn’t on it!

Ongoing Projects

Over the past couple of years, my beloved has helped me to understand that I am a ‘visual organizer’. In fact, I am the epitome of “if I can’t see it, its not real”. (As she likes to put it, “Richard, somewhere you missed out on the whole ‘object permanence’ thing.”)

So… to help me with that little difficulty, I am building a “project wall”. Kind of a big Gantt Chart for my life. I’m thinking of creating a “slide board”… you know… like churches use for hymns. I can slide a card (in 80pt font) that has the Project Name; Who its For (Personal, Congregational, Presbytery, Conference, GCO); When its Due; How much is done… and then move it up and down on the basis of its priority. Each morning, when I walk into my office, I’ll see everything … and then make up my day’s ‘to do list’ on the basis of it.

So. My current project list would look something like:

– ‘Daily Prayer / Scripture Brochure’ : Congregation : 0% : March 21/07

– Pastoral Relations Report : Presbytery : 0% : March 20/07

– Palm Sunday Worship : Congregation : 0% : March 28/07

– Book Proposal : Personal : 80% : March 28/07

– L/E/P Gathering Submission : Personal : 95% : March 31/07

– Queens Ave Interim Search Committee : Presbytery : 80% : April 1/07

– Comparison between RC/UC Marriage Liturgies: GCO : 5% : April 1/07

– Holy Week Worship (Wed, Thurs, Fri) : 0% : April 2/07

– ‘Joint Search Committee’ Workshop : Presbytery : 90% : April 3/07

– Easter Morning Worship : 0% : April 4/07

-  S/A Gathering Submission : Personal : 0% : June 1/07

– Article for ‘The Clergy Journal’ : Personal : 0% : June 1/07

– ‘Doing Church Differently’ keynote : Personal : 20% : June 26/07

– ‘For Such a Season’ worship facilitation : Personal : 10% : Aug 8/07

– ‘For Such a Season’ workshop : Personal : 0% : Aug 8/07

That’s the bare-bones stuff. There are a few others that I need to get up “on the board”, but I haven’t quite got it put together, yet.

Hmmm… how about a “Richard wiki” – a place where anyone can go and post things that I’m supposed to be doing. *LOL*
